Italy is a world leader when it comes to celiac disease. The country’s bold initiatives include a national program to screen all children for celiac (as well as for Type 1 diabetes). The government pays a monthly stipend to those who need it to help cover the extra cost of eating gluten-free. Italian companies are creating fantastic wheat-free products with alternative grains while avoiding additives such as gums and binding agents. Gluten-intolerant friends who’ve visited over the past few years have shared stories of how well they’ve eaten in the land famous for pizza, pasta, and bread.
Fortunately, Italy is exporting this know-how elsewhere.
While I was in Paris, I discovered that sometimes the easiest route to getting a delicious gluten-free menu is to head to an Italian restaurant. Let me introduce you to two that I visited last month. Both are dedicated, 100% gluten-free establishments, so there’s no risk of cross-contamination. If you’re looking for delicious, satisfying meals, they really hit the spot.
